Codezilla and Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații launch Benvolio, an AI-powered Legal & Tax digital platform
Codezilla, a Romanian technology company and Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații law firm, together with its tax division Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații Tax, announce the launch of Benvolio, an AI-powered Legal & Tax digital platform, already used in practice to support legal and tax professionals in analysing and substantiating decisions.
The platform is built around a fundamental reality of legal and tax advisory work: an answer holds little value unless it can be explained, supported, and defended effectively.
This principle is embedded in the platform’s design, which has been calibrated for the Romanian jurisdiction through partnerships with local legal experts and tax consultants from Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații and Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații Tax.
It offers traceable reasoning tailored to each legal system and to the internal analysis and risk management practices of corporations. In practice, Benvolio is designed as a flexible system adaptable to the working methods of different corporations and organisations, not only at a jurisdictional level, but also in terms of internal processes and practices.
The Romanian launch marks the first stage of a broader expansion plan. The platform has been developed and validated locally, with European expansion already underway. Several partners from other countries have been already identified and integrated into the scaling process.
Background
The adoption of artificial intelligence in legal and tax advisory has increased significantly in recent years. Most existing solutions focus on generating quick answers, but often overlook jurisdictional differences and the complexity of regulatory and compliance issues. Without a clear legal context and structured reasoning, these answers risk creating a false sense of certainty, which can be problematic in a field where decisions must be justified and owned.
Benvolio was created as a direct response to these limitations: a platform built together with legal professionals and tax consultants, grounded in the way legal and tax analysis actually work.
“Across our projects, we have seen in practice that AI models deliver real value only when tailored to the context. In legal and tax work, this context is non-negotiable. The difference lies in the ability to operate within the local legal framework, with applied interpretations. Benvolio was built on this premise: a platform developed alongside legal and tax experts, grounded in practice and in the way legal work actually gets done”, says Sebastian Doroftei, CEO, Codezilla.
The partnership for Romania
In Romania, the legal development and calibration of Benvolio are carried out in partnership with Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații, one of the country’s largest law firms, with contributions from the tax team at Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații Tax regarding tax-specific functionalities.
The collaboration involves modelling legal and tax reasoning and continuously validating it against local case law and practice, within the platform’s use in day-to-day activity.
“The local legal context, case law and the practical application of laws are essential to any sound legal opinion. Benvolio reflects this reality by bringing technology closer to how legal decisions are constructed. Our confidence stems from the fact that our team uses the platform daily. Our people rely on this tool in their work, and their positive feedback confirms we are on the right track. We save time.”, says Gabriel Zbârcea, Managing Partner, Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații.
“In tax work, every detail is crucial. A rule that is read in isolation, without considering the broader framework, or the simple omission of texts that may seem secondary but are nevertheless relevant in practice can significantly change the outcome of an analysis. Benvolio is actively used by our team in their day-to-day work, helping us to structure analysis faster while providing a solid starting point, firmly grounded in Romanian tax legislation and practice.”, added Alexandru Cristea, Tax Partner, Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații Tax.
Platform architecture
Benvolio is built on a three-tier intelligence model that mirrors the natural process of legal and tax reasoning: from general principles, through jurisdictional context, down to the specifics of each organisation. It functions as a decision support system, offering an analytical framework that can be explained, supported and applied in real professional contexts. In this way, Benvolio reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks and helps structure analysis so that decisions are clearer and better substantiated.
On the tax side, Benvolio offers structured, traceable reasoning aligned with Romanian tax legislation and current practice in the interpretation and application of rules. It supports tax consultants in building coherent analyses with clear references to applicable regulations, providing a verifiable starting point for tax opinions.
Availability
Benvolio is targeted at law firms, tax advisory firms, and corporate legal and tax teams operating in complex environments, seeking to integrate artificial intelligence responsibly into their workflows.
Legal and tax teams interested in exploring how Benvolio can support their daily activities can request access to the platform and test it within their own projects. User feedback is vital for ongoing calibration and development.
